Today was an awesome day, starting from last night. Bird went right down to bed and didn't wake up until 7 this morning. She went right back to sleep after a feeding and slept until 10, allowing me to workout, shower, eat breakfast and read an entire magazine in peace and quiet. Unreal.
--
Bird and I took advantage of the last of the wonderful weather and took a leisurely walk through our neighborhood. I know we won't be here for much longer (prayers!) so we enjoyed the sights, waved to neighbors, strolled down the sidewalks and just took in the colors and sounds.
--
T and I had an impromptu home date night last night, involving Jet's Pizza, Coca-Cola, blankets and the movie In the Loop. I highly recommend all of those things.
--
Did I mention that I got a full nights sleep last night...I don't want to brag.
--
Next week I plan to show a little peek of my creation station for G + T in case you are interested.

The Lates
I was gone for about a month from this space and many things got accomplished in my absence, in no particular order (warning - most of these pictures feature Bird):
Our little Bird turned 9 months old!

I had lots of outings with lady friends during the day, some baby bounce story time at the library, and a trip to the zoo
Also, T + I celebrated our 3 year anniversary in our college town and we got an offer on our house, now for the paperwork to start!
I definitely enjoyed my down time but I'm so glad to be back.

or
How to attend a wedding wearing something from your SIOL
We were so very lucky to attend Ms. Self's (now Mrs. Milam!) wedding last night at the beautiful Blue Dress Barn on the west side of Michigan. The details and the site were gorgeous as were the bride and groom. We had a great time, met a ton of new people, danced and laughed all night, and enjoyed sleeping in while Bird stayed with my parents for the night. Here's the proof:

In the Photo Fridays - Week 5
On our date last Saturday there was a little statue in a picnic area near the art center we went to. I did my best to mimic her cute little pose. Judge for yourself.
Also, a shout out to Bird, since Sunday marked 6 months! Excuse my just woken up expression/appearance, but any chance to snuggle with my Bird for a photo I gotta take.

In the Photo Fridays - Week 4
A little late posting this one today and for good reason. Today I got to spend the morning splashing around with Bird and some friends at the Splash Pad in a nearby city. Since you've already seen us grace the blog in our bathing suits, I decided not to throw up a picture of that today. Instead you get photos of my haircut! See after the Splash Pad outing today my stylist friend M came over and gave this mommy a little style. It may not look like much but I love it! Enjoy!
I'm glad I got a new do since tomorrow T and I will be having our monthly date! To celebrate our 1000th day of marriage we're headed to a local art center and grabbing some lunch while Nana (my mom) comes to hang out with Bird. Then Sunday we get to celebrate Bird's 1/2 birthday...6 months already, where has the time gone. Also, my mom, SIL and I are going to have a girls early dinner that day. Jam packed weekend full of family and celebrations, just how I like it.
Happy weekend!

A day for the ladies
Yesterday, Bird and I went out alone for the first time since she was born. We took a ladies' trip to the mall. I was so proud of her because she slept for the entire 2 hour experience and captivated all the mall workers with her sweet slumbering face.
It was really nice to get out of the house with her and I did better than I thought I would by myself. I was worried I would look like such a novice mom, struggling in the parking lot with the stroller, not being able to quiet Bird if she had a crying fit, dealing with explosive diapers or things like that. Everything went really smoothly and it was just awesome to be out of the house for a few hours.
Later that evening, Bird's Aunt C came over to baby-sit while T and I went out to celebrate my brother C's 31st birthday. I was telling T the night before how much I just needed some time with him alone. Granted this was while Bird was yelling in my face while laying in between T and I, pretty much what she does every night. We got to hang out for over 2 hours but we really missed Bird and were happy to get home to her at the end of the night.

2 years
Yesterday marked T and I's 2 year anniversary! We kept things kinda low key since it was mid week, just going to the doctor's for our monthly prenatal appointment and then to dinner at a local favorite, Fishbones.
T was very sweet and surprised me with flowers in my car after the doctor's appointment, and I think I was equally sweet by surprising him with monogrammed handkerchiefs (he's a bit of an old man and I love it!)
The biggest surprise/present was that we are going to Stratford, ON, Canada tomorrow to see the play The Importance of Being Ernest and staying at the Breaking Bread B&B nearby! T planned this all by himself and I have to be honest, I loved being surprised and should really let him surprise me more often (usually I get in the way, I'm so nosy.)
I am very excited for our trip tomorrow and simply for the chance to celebrate with T all that has come to pass in the last two years and our future that awaits us.

1 year.
1 year ago, we married the partner that God created just for us.
1 year ago, we smiled so much our faces hurt for days.
1 year ago, we pledged before our Lord, our family and our friends that we would protect, care for, love, serve and obey the other for eternity.
1 year ago, we laughed to hold back the tears of sheer joy.
1 year ago, we were surrounded by those that cared for us and supported our union.
Today, we smile, kiss and hug more than we argue.
Today, we know more about the other and continue to learn.
Today, we laugh at time that has passed and wish to hold on to it.
Today, we remember our vows and renew them whole-heartedly.
Today, we are more in love than ever.
to many, many more...and enjoying the ones we've been given...

Lessons learned about life from grocery shopping with my husband
Every week we go grocery shopping together, and almost every week some minimal "discussion" comes from the shopping trip.
Someone decides on food the other doesn't like.
Someone puts food in the basket that isn't on the agreed upon list.
Someone wants to cut costs and go generic.
Someone really likes cookies, expensive chocolatey cookies.
Despite the several tactics that have been put into place to avoid such "discussions", such as creating a list together, shopping only the aisles with items on the list, and even prayer before entering the store, without fail the "discussions" keep coming.
This past trip, the "discussion" left us both exhausted with shopping together. It also left us with this lesson on life and our marriage: the more communication, the better, always.
We learned that even when we are saying things the other doesn't want to hear, at least we are saying them and not bottling them up inside. Whether it be about beer choice (Miller High Life or Coors Light?) or babies (are we ready or not?) or even what to do with the $5.50 in bottle return money, openly communicating with the other person in the moment can help a great deal.

Update on Ebay "windfall"
We have decided to put the money towards our trip expenses and any money left over after our trip will be snowflaked to debt.
This way we feel even less stressed on our trip about covering meals and fun activities in our free time. Also, it kinda gives us an incentive to not spend it all in NY since we get to pay towards our debt free future if we are frugal.
It is times like this, when we discuss an issue and come to a decision together that I really feel like a team with T and not just like individuals running around doing whatever makes each of us happy.

We're going to NY! and other summer plans
We booked our tickets to go to NY for N's wedding! That makes wedding number two for us this summer!
It feels good to finally have that purchase out of the way, to stop worrying about the cost of getting there and where to stay and now get to focus on the fun we'll have celebrating their union and traveling together. One of the highlights of the trip (besides their fabulous Indian ceremony!) will be eating at Famous Dave's. This restaurant is near our hotel and apparently boasts really good - not good for you food in large quantities and we're excited. The other upside of the trip is that its totally budgeted for, all the trip costs and even fun money! Very little to worry about except arriving on time and making sure my voice doesn't go out and I don't forget the words to my song I'm singing for the couple!
One question is left to decide, what to get them and our other friends that are getting married in June?
Besides these farther away plans, this weekend should be fun because we are hosting the A's from T's home town. I'm excited to have them come down and visit and we'll get to go to the Red Bull Air Show with them on Sunday.
Later in June I'm going to a concert for a band I've never seen in concert before with some new friends. I'm really excited because I haven't been to a big show in a while and I love discovering new music. Also, I'm glad to be getting to know new people around this area.
Lastly, we are going to spend the weekend in T's home town up north. I really am looking forward to spending time with my in-laws as we don't get to see much of them and we always get to see my family. Its always so laid back when we go up there and my MIL and FIL are so accommodating.

We've been stimulated, bro!
That's what I just told T on the phone a few hours ago, alerting him that our economic stimulus payment had been direct deposited in our joint checking account! It sounds better when you actually hear me say it...
We've already got plans for the money, plans that T and I have been mulling over for the past few months. Half will be for fun, the other half serious.
We will be spending some of the money on our trip to NY for my friend's wedding. After I agreed to sing for their ceremony/weekend/wedding extravaganza, only then did I think about the total costs that will be incurred with traveling there, staying the night, getting around, and of course eating. No need to worry too much now, as some of that stimulus is earmarked for this trip in particular.
The other half of the money is going to, you guessed it, debt repayment. I couldn't be happier unless it was all going to debt, but we have to have some fun, right? Once the payment gets sent off we'll be 15% of the way to paying off our CC's in full. That's cause for a mini celebration. Perhaps milkshakes and a movie this weekend, yum!

about being married is afternoon naps after an early dinner that turn into evening naps, that turn into late nights up with your spouse...

the end of an era...sorta
2007 is almost over and with that I wanted to recap some of the amazing things that happened this year...
My best friend had her first baby
Two of our good friends got married
We got married
We moved back to Michigan, after surviving some time in Los Angeles
We bought a house
We joined our church and met some wonderful people through our small group
We found new jobs that we actually like
I get to spend time watching almost 2 year olds every other weekend
My parents celebrated 37 years of wedded rollercoaster
Reclaimed the joy of napping
I'm sure there is more that went on, and if you were close to me, you probably saw this all and more occurring...
Here's to the best that 2007 had to offer and to the amazing opportunities to be had in 2008!
L'chaim...
P.S. Today, so far, we have only left the house to walk to the mailbox (across the street) and back...sadly inside was a returned to sender Thank You card we had sent to my cousin and a Science Fiction Book Club order packet...

Week 7
We have officially made it to week 7 of our marriage.
I don't know what that means, but it seems like a milestone at this point, so I thought I'd take the time to chat about it.
I think week 7 is the comfortable time, when people stop asking about the wedding, but strangers still call you newlyweds.
I wish week 7 was when your wedding photos arrived, so people can stop asking for those, but we'll all just have to wait and see for that one as well.
In case anyone has found this blog mysteriously and is wondering just what "the roost" looks like, I am planning to post pictures this weekend, but don't quote me on that.
I say don't quote me because I'm actually trying to utilize my time for napping, sleeping, resting, laying down with my eyes closed and other activities that don't involve me moving while staying alive.
The other thing that is going to take up about 1.75 hours these next couple weeks is planning for our holiday/housewarming/going away party. I love party planning now that the wedding planning is all over, cause there isn't so much 1) pressure and 2) expense involved. The theme is "The White Party" and I'm going to 'go all out' and find food, beverages and even attire to compliment the theme.
P.S. I love geeks and lankys...
P.P.S. The thing in the title is a nest, not a donut...

In sickness and in health...
Who knew the vows would come into play so soon...
I've been sick all week and I've realized one of the best perks of being married...there is someone to take care of you when you are at your worst. Some one to make you tea, bring you food, tuck you in, and pray for you and with you.
I couldn't ask for anything more...except maybe to get over this cold....

Getting used to it...
So after taking a day or two to call and visit the appropriate authorities and waiting a week for things to arrive, its finally official. My new license and SS card arrived on Monday, and now I'm R.A.W....so official!
What now comes with this is the awkward pause that falls right after "A***" and before my last name when asked. For instance, when recording my new voicemail, calling reps about publications, even ordering pizza, there is a slight pause when I'm asked, "And who is this?"
It could be worse...

The beginning
We did it...we finally did it...T and I are married!
Its been almost two weeks of wedded...fun. I wouldn't say bliss because that's corny and strange but it feels different. I'm excited to be Mrs. W., it feels so official!
We went on our honeymoon cruise to the Bahamas, slept, ate, and laid in the sun a lot, and generally enjoyed getting to know each other as husband and wife.
The past week has been spent moving into our new house! Its such a dream that we now have our own house, a home, where we can do what we want with no one to answer to but ourselves. I hope that in the future it becomes a place for family and friends to congregate and feel at home as well.
I'll have pictures up soon enough, but until then...
Brrr!
