4 months - A sibling photo shoot

I can just see this being the beginning of so many shoots like this. By the way, I love the light in our bed room in the AM and I love when our babies cuddle in our bed, hence so many photos in this location!

Mothers' Day weekend

I feel so blessed that I got to spend Mothers' Day weekend with my parents who came to visit. Now I will preface this by saying that having others around to "help" with the kids can be helpful, it can also be stressful. Lucky for us, my parents were definitely more helpful than stressful and the kids and T and I thoroughly enjoyed their visit.

They drove over on the Friday before and arrived right before nap time while T was still at work. We just hung out at home until the kiddos tired out and my parents went to find their hotel and I crashed for moment. My parents came back over just in time for T and I to go on a little dinner date and Bird could not wait to get my dad all to herself. That was fine with my mom who was ready to snuggle Ham all night anyway. We enjoyed the time away plus the bonus of free babysitting; dating your spouse is really important.

The next morning, my parents came over for a hot breakfast and early play time with Ham and Bird while T was at work. Homemade biscuits and bacon later, we started to talk about a plan for the day. I originally had big plans for their visit but instead opted to keep things low key for them and the kids. My mom wanted to go shopping to spoil her grandkids and my dad decided to head back to the hotel to relax and catch up on a little work.

My mom fail #1 was that we left for the mall (that is 25 minutes away) at 11 am. Mind you, my children generally start to get cranky/sleepy around noon. Bird fell asleep on the way to the mall and Ham woke up just as we got there. That gave us about 30 minutes before Ham got hungry and Bird got antsy. Lucky for me, the carousel stole Bird's attention and she enjoyed that with my mom while I fed Ham and we were on our way. We finished up shopping, grabbed some pretzels and headed home to salvage what was left of nap time. I enjoyed hanging out with my mom as we don't get much of that time anymore. She's really funny and it is interesting to see her see me as a mother, when normally I'm just her "baby."

That evening we had reservations for dinner at Boston's. We decided to do dinner on Saturday to beat the Sunday Mothers' Day crowd and to celebrate my dad's birthday that was later in the week. I don't know if it was the time of day, too many people, my parents being there, or her being 2 years old, but Bird would not sit still, stay quiet, or eat any pizza. We breezed through dinner as quickly as possible and headed over to a local Target to pick up some dessert (ice cream) and other spoils for the kids. Bird ended up with so many toys after we left her in the toy section with T and my dad and Ham, while my mom and I went to find the ice cream. Apparently we had been gone too long. We headed back with our haul to end the night with dessert and late bed times for the kids, though they slept really well for the night.

Mothers' Day morning I was surprised by a sweet and really unexpected gift of a massage gift certificate and Nutty Bars (my current favorite craving) from T and the kids. My parents made their way over and we enjoyed pancakes and sausage (I love cooking big breakfasts) and juice together. The weather was really nice out, so we took a little walk to our neighborhood park and I got to enjoy watching my father play with his granddaughter and my mom swing happily with her grandson, all while happy to be with their baby girl and still amazed she was a mother now.

We headed back to our place and noshed on some coffee cake that I had baked that morning before my parents hit the road back to MI. Some of the pictures from this weekend are going to be my forever favorites because of the sheer joy, honesty, happiness and love you can see in them.

Simplicity + a shop shut down

Perhaps shut down is too harsh a term. For awhile? Yes. For good? Who knows. For now? The best decision for me and my family.

Lately, I've been purging "things" left and right. Clothes that don't fit, suit my lifestyle, or just aren't me anymore. Toys that Bird is not playing with or has multiples of. Teeny outfits that Ham just blazed through. Extra papers, books, bags, furniture, just "stuff" that doesn't have a place in our lives.

Through this process I've come to the conclusion that, for now, Goose + Trisser - the shop, is just one of those things that doesn't "fit". I have loved my space in the handmade market for the past two years and the tiny treats I've created and sent out into the world. The truth is that now I have a second precious creation at home that is demanding my everything and I have to get them both ready to send out into the world as well. Not only is that where my focus should be, that is where I desperately want my focus to stay.

I can't promise that I'll stay away from the handmade community for long. I'm still open to custom work and one off pieces here and there (email me to get a quote) and who knows what G + T will have in store for the future. What I do know is that it has been fun and it has been real.

{side note: I will be having a shop closing sale, featuring all pieces, samples, and materials priced to move!

My 29th

My birthday weekend was so awesome that I didn't take a single picture. Here's what went down:

  • Woke up with Ham and cuddled as long as I could before Bird wanted to join in the fun.
  • Ham is no good at sharing and gets bored with girl time so he headed back to bed while Bird and I had breakfast: ice cream, strawberries, and eggos. It's my birthday.
  • Ham figured we'd had enough girl time and decided to break up the party after a couple hours.
  • Bird decided that now would be a good time to vomit for the first time in her life. All over the floor. Happy birthday, mom.
  • I've never dealt with another person's vomit in my life.
  • Cleaned that up and ushered everyone into a early nap time.
  • Proceeded to give myself an at home birthday spa day, complete with shower, hair styling, manicure and pedicure. Successful.
  • Cleaned up a bit so the place isn't a total crazy house for T when he gets home and I run out the door.
  • Ordered pizza to go from a place around the block when T called to say he was on his way home.
  • Packed everyone in the stroller and speed walk to get pizza.
  • Made it back home just in time for T to pull up.
  • Enjoyed two bites of delicious sausage and pepperoni pizza before Ham wakes up from his sleep by projectile vomiting, all over himself and his car seat. Happy birthday, mom.
  • My kids are so thoughtful. That's how you know you are getting older, when other people throw up on your birthday.
  • Was surprised by T with token of his affection.
  • Texted friend, Kelly, that I will be taking a later train to Chicago to come see her due to child vomiting, but never fear, I'll be there!
  • Unpacked bag and got dressed for the night to save some time once I arrived. Impromptu dance party with T, girl, and boy.
  • Packed the car up and headed to the commuter train station.
  • Enjoyed two hours of music in my headphones, silly fiction on the iPad, and watching the crazies that are ever present on public transit (Miller Lite man upstairs on the train, I'm talking to you.)
  • Saw Kelly's smiling face when I disembarked from the EL train near her apartment. Girl time can begin and I'm just Rachel for the next 16 hours.
  • Dinner was had, dancing was done, and drinks were imbibed. In style, of course.
  • Did I mention it was Friday the 13th...I attribute all the crazy from today to that fact.
  • I got to sleep in and wake up on my own for the first time in I can't remember how long.
  • We stopped into a local breakfast place and I indulged in some mango and berry topped french toast.
  • I headed back home to my Mister and my littles, trying to stay awake on the train after too much fun and good food.
  • We enjoyed nachos and played lazies for the rest of the weekend.
29, I'm going to enjoy the heck out of you.

p.s. I have less than a year to complete this list. Yikes!
